An American mother has sued Instagram and Snapchat for her daughter’s suicide. She filed a case against Meta and Snapchat.
The mother says that her 11-year-old daughter committed suicide due to her addiction to social media. Last July, 11-year-old Selina committed suicide after becoming addicted to social media.
Speaking to InGazette, Snapchat expressed its grief over Selena’s death and said it always wants its users to use the app in a safe way.
Selina’s mother Tyami Rodriguez has also complained that the app does not have parental controls and nothing to verify the age of children.
She said that due to her addiction to the app, her daughter could not sleep, became a victim of depression, refused to go to school, did not eat food and eventually committed suicide. Rodriguez has filed a case to spread awareness that this can happen to other children.
