Even though many countries have made economic revolution through information and communication technology, our country in Nepal does not seem to pay much attention to its use and development from the government level. Although the private sector has used information technology to some extent to expand its business, the rapid development of information technology in a short period of time shows that the technology we have used is very limited. The thing to consider is that the software made by some of us Nepalis is being used by the citizens of developed countries. However, most of the people in their own country do not know anything about it. Overall, we are moving to the left in the field of information technology.
Our study shows that the lack of interest in the study and use of information technology, the lack of knowledge about the benefits of it are the challenges of ICT development. Some people think that using social media is the best use of technology. According to various unofficial studies, there is a ‘generation gap’ in the development of information technology in Nepal.
Although the development of technology is fast, the teachers, government employees and policy makers do not have general knowledge of technology and they are always in power. On the other hand, computer education has not been made a compulsory subject in schools and colleges. The bureaucracy does not want to speed up its work by learning technology. Because, the generation before us is still feeling awkward to assimilate the technology. Therefore, the only step to be taken by the governmental and non-governmental organizations now is to raise awareness about information technology, its education and skill-based training.
Although living in the city, women are still not interested in studying technical subjects and even if they do, their presence in information technology is very low, the study shows.
The country cannot make progress without information technology education and training. The present generation wants to make their future brighter by using technology. However, due to lack of education and training, they are forced to go to the Gulf countries to work hard as they are unemployed at home.
Another thing is that Nepali women, who cover half of the sky, still do not have access to technology and lack of public awareness among them is making it difficult for everyone to access and use information technology. Although living in the city, women are still not interested in studying technical subjects and even if they do, their presence in information technology is very low, the study shows. Therefore, the first task now is to start the awareness program from the school level in the villages and towns and at the same time make them efficient by providing various general to high level training.
The country will benefit in the long run by producing more and more skilled manpower and enabling them for employment nationally and internationally or abroad. The nation does not incur any loss if the skilled manpower goes abroad and becomes more and more initiated there. Therefore, the state should create an environment for that trained manpower to return home. . Only when that skilled manpower returns home can the country find its way to economic prosperity.
