Unveiling Perspectives on Violence Against Women and Girls: An Expert Dialogue Hosted by London Policing College for the 5th International Police Education Conference

Overview:

Violence against women and girls (VAWG) has perpetually been a significant concern. Although strides have been made in understanding and addressing it, the changing dynamics of society bring forth new challenges. This seminar, integrating online and in-person sessions, aims to delve deep into these aspects by leveraging insights from the workshops conducted by the London Policing College over the past four years (London Policing College, 2023).

Meet the Panel:

Parm Sandhu (Chair):

A former high-ranking Metropolitan Police officer specializing in VAWG. Author of “Black and Blue” and a prominent advocate for women and individuals of color (London Policing College, 2023).

Yasmin Khan:

Founder of The Halo Project Charity, and a national advisor for VAWG. Recognized for her super-complaint highlighting the shortcomings faced by BME communities (London Policing College, 2023).

Leigh Beek:

Former Detective Chief Inspector with rich experience in frontline policing and handling serious sexual offenses, especially in South London boroughs (London Policing College, 2023).

Detective Superintendent Gareth Miles:

A veteran with the City of London Police, specializing in Fraud, Cyber, and Economic Crime. Currently helms the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (London Policing College, 2023).

Professor (Dr) Purvi Pokhariyal:

Dean at the School of Law, Forensic Justice & Policy Studies, National Forensic Sciences University, India. An international academic with a profound interest in VAWG (London Policing College, 2023).
