Sankhuwasabha is a remote district in the Himalayan region in the Kaeshi zone of one of the seven provinces of Nepal. It is bounded on the east by Taplejung and Tehrathum districts, on the west by Solukhumbu and Bhojpur districts, on the north by China’s Tibet and on the south by Tehrathum and Dhankuta districts. It occupies 2.36% of the total area of Nepal, 12.19% of Savik’s Eastern Development Region and 35.68% of Koshi Zone.

The district also includes the Makalu Varun National Park for biodiversity and natural conservation and the Tinjure, Milke Jaljal Laligurans Conservation Area for the conservation of Nepal’s national flower Laligurans. Out of the total land area of the district, there are 8,275 cultivable lands, 40,315 forest areas, 11,375 pasture and bush areas, 27,395 snow and water areas and 12,665 lands including rocks and cliffs.
The tributary of Saptakoshi River Arun flows through the central part in the northern part of the district and the western part in the southern part of the district.
Sabhapokhari, the source of Sabha Khola, and Gufa Pokhari in the south-eastern part of the district are the ponds of religious and tourist importance in the district.
Manakamana Temple, Baneshwar Mahadev, Siddhakali Temple, Baleshwar Shivalinga, Sabhapokhari, Khempalung Shivdhara, Matsyapokhari, Jaubari Mahadev Cave, Humungmai Temple, Guthi Gumba, Makalu I (8463 m), Makalu II (7678 m) are some of the places of religious and tourist importance. ), Varunatse (7129 m), Chamlang (7319 m), Himachuli (6424 m), Kumbhakarna (7129 m), Makalu Barun National Park, Laliguran’s Conservation Area, Arun Upatyaka, Milke Dada etc. Chainpure Karuwa here has gained fame not only in the country but also abroad.
Before the unification, the Kirant state was divided into three states. Sankhuwasabha district belonged to Pallo Kirant. The fact that there were forts, rounds, forts, etc. in different places of this district during the Kirant period is confirmed by the current naming of the villages as Hatiyagola, Gadhi Bazaar, Lohakot etc. The economic resources of this district depend on agriculture. Although the economically active population is 60.73%, 77.62% of them depend on agriculture and 22.38% on non-agricultural occupations.
